It’s all about the kids. Right? Well, yes and no. As parents, we spend most of our time making sure our kids are well-cared for,s parents, we spend most of our time making sure our kids are well-cared for, get their homework done, eat healthy, get plenty of exercise, etc. While that is all good, and what we’re supposed to be doing, what about when we go on vacation? Parents should take a vacation Time-out even when they have Special Need Child.
Family vacations are tied in with making memories, holding with one another, and having a great time. In any case, that doesn’t mean dad can’t take some time here and there to relax or do something he loves – even if that means doing it by himself.
Read on to find out how parents can take a family vacation Time-out.
Consider a Cruise
There are so many activities for adults on a cruise, and the best part is that these floating resorts have kids’ clubs. This means you can drop your kids off for a couple of hours and head to the gym, spa, pool, or attend a show. If dropping your kids off isn’t an option, have your partner take them for a couple of hours while you go off and explore the ship.
Bring a Nanny
If one extra ticket is an option for your family, consider bringing a nanny on your next family vacation. Hire a person who has experience with children who have social, behavioral, or attention/focus challenges. This way, the nanny can help care for the children while parents takes a break. Go golfing, sailing, snorkeling, or take part in whatever activity helps you unwind. Bring your partner along too, if possible, to get some quality time together.
Travel with another Family
Do you have close friends or family members who also have kids and would love to vacation with you? If so, bring them along and leave the kids with your partners while the dads take a day for themselves. Spend time with your best bud for somebody one-on-one time and go shake climbing, play golf, go to the spa, relax at the beach.
Don’t Feel Guilty
Don’t feel guilty. Instead, use this time to your advantage because you don’t know when you’ll ever get this vacation time-out chance again spends maximum time with your Special Need Child. It’s ok to take some time for yourself. This will help you feel recharged, rejuvenated, and ready for the next adventure.
